My Journey to Georgia Cont.. Part 4
My brothers where sitting on the stoop with all of there friends. It seemed like they were just waiting for me to come home. All I could do was shake my head and scrunch down in the car seat. I knew that this wasn’t going to be good at all. As soon as the boys noticed me in the car they all stood up. It was like a chain reaction and I was not looking forward to the outcome. My oldest god brother came right over to my friend window and asked him to roll it down. I told him that he didn’t have to but he told me that he wasn’t scared. I gave him a kiss and got out the car. He wanted to be the man so I let him deal with them. I went into the house to put my things down. I came back out to see if he had left but they all where outside the gate leaning on the fence. They looked like a bunch of thugs and believe me their all far from being anybody’s thug. I went over to the car and told him to leave and that I would call him later. He finally listen and left. My brothers started on me, saying he’s a bum and I didn’t need to talk to him. I was pissed and felt disrespected. I flipped them all the finger and went into the house. He called me later on that night mad as ever. I told him that he didn’t have to prove anything to me and now his little ego was hurt. I laughed and told him I bet he would listen the next time I tell him something..lol We didn’t talk after that because of my brothers. That was just some of the madness I had to deal with living in queens with a whole bunch of dudes. They loved me but were very protective and for that I couldn’t be mad.
However, 1998, is the year I would never forget. So many different things happen both good and bad to me. In February I was in the Grammys and yes I said the Grammys. My god sister ( the famous one) hooked us all up with being backup singers for R.Kelly. We were lucky because they held it at Radio Music Hall in New York that year. I couldn’t believe that I was going to the Grammys. We had rehearsal at one of the big studios in NY. We got a chance to meet R.Kelly before the actual event. He was really cool and he is the biggest jokester. Had us all cracking up while we rehearsed.Altogether it was about 75 of us that sung I believe I could fly. We ( my peoples) all went shopping and got dresses for the event. This was the first time I ever got a weave in my hair or gotten my nails done. It was a killer and I didn’t like neither but hey it was for the Grammys. I couldn’t go looking a mess with all those famous people there..lol The day of the Grammys was very exciting because I got to see so many people. I took a picture with Busta Rhymes (who I loved back then) and George Clinton ( his hair was always crazy).

There were a lot of different people there that day it’s to many names to name. Although, I did get to meet Mike Tyson and Will Smith and man is he sexier in person. When we were about to go on stage Patti La Belle and Stevie Wonder was getting off the stage. She was like “ya’ll better sing” and walked away. She had seen us rehearsing before the show. I just smiled and said okay..lol We sung our song and we did great. Everyone stood up and clapped for us. I felt like a superstar..lol. Another thing is I walked the red carpet and that felt so good. The photographers where looking at me and my girls like who are they. Priceless!! That was one of the best experience ever. Then in March I found out that I had a tumor. I went to the doctor for what I thought was abscess that needed to be drained and it turned out to be a tumor. The doctor took an x-ray and told me that he also believed it be an abscess. He then went on and drained it. I went home on the train and by the time I got there I was in so much pain. My god sister told me that someone from the dentist office called me. I called back and the doctor told me that I needed to go to the emergency room because I didn’t have an abscess. I was furious and asked why did he cut me if he wasn’t sure that it was an abscess. I immediately went to the emergency room at Brookdale hospital in Brooklyn. So now I was scared and didn’t know what to think. The doctor finally called me in and asked me how long have I felt the bump in my mouth I told him maybe 2 weeks. He looked at me and told me that he was going to have to…. to be cont..
Oh my goodness Jean, you are going to have me tuning in like tuning in to a soap opera...I love it!
